Illustrated with four engraved plates. Collated, complete. A biography of Sir George Mackenzie by Scottish poet, novelist and literary critic Andrew Lang (1844-1912). Sir George Mackenzie of Rosehaugh (1636-1691) was a member of the Scottish Parliament. In his role as Lord Advocate, he was responsible for the persecuting policy of Charles II in Scotland against the Presbyterian Covenanters. He also acted as justice-depute during the Midlothian witch trials. CONDITION In the publisher's original cloth binding. Externally, smart, with minor shelf wear to the extremities. Spine is slightly faded. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright and clean except for offsetting to the end papers.
