At 15 years of age, he pitched 2/3rds of an inning, giving up 2 hits and 5 walks and five earned runs, and finishing 1944 with an era of 67.50. In ‘46, he retired from baseball. He returned in ‘47 and played minor league ball for five years with the Redlegs organization. In ‘55, Nuxhall was rewarded for his hard work with a nice year going 17 and 12 with five shutouts, the most shutouts pitched that year in the National League.
