Description: 1976 Crane Football Disc # Jan Stenerud (HOF) - Kansas City Chiefs (EX) The 1976 Crane football disc set of 30 cards contains a black and white photo of the player surrounded by a colored border. These circular cards measure 3 3/8" in diameter. The word Crane completes the circle of the border. The backs contain a Crane (Potato Chips) advertisement and the letters MSA, signifying Michael Schechter Associates. A recently discovered version of the discs was apparently inserted into potato chip packages as several players have been found printed without the "National Football League Players" notation around the small football logo on the fronts. Known discs from this version also feature food product stains as would be expected. Franco Harris can only be found in this "product inserted" version of the discs. None of the second version of the discs are considered part of the complete set due to their scarcity. These discs were also available as a complete set via a mail-in offer on the potato chip wrappers; consequently they are commonly found in nice condition. Of these, there are 12 discs that were produced in shorter supply than the other 18 and are noted by SP in the checklist. These extras found their way into the hobby when Crane sold their leftovers to a major midwestern dealer. Since the cards are unnumbered, they are ordered alphabetically. The discs can also be found with the sponsor Saga Philadelphia School District on the cardback.
