Bust portrait of Andrew Jackson by Samuel Lovett Waldo. The Historic New Orleans Collection has acquired an important portrait of Andrew Jackson. The portrait, painted by Samuel Lovett Waldo (1783-1861), is one of four known Jackson portraits by that artist and is believed to have been completed between 1817 and 1821. Other Jackson portraits by Waldo are in the collections of Metropolitan Museum of Art and the Addison Gallery of American Art in Andover, Massachusetts. Waldo's full-length portrait of Jackson, commissioned by the city of Jackson commissioned by the city of New Orleans and for years displayed at the Customhouse, has been lost.
