Description: This listing is for a rare, unusual antique handmade wood slide-top artist's paint box/carrier. It came out of a collection of artist-related antiques in New Jersey. It looks like an oversized slide-top candle box but, when the hand-chamfered lid is removed, you find a handmade wood artist's palette with old paint remnants on it. Below that is a lift-out caddy/storage unit that would have held paints and brushes. The palette and caddy appear to be made of oak but the box is very heavy and we think it is not pine but another much heavier hardwood. Great original dry surface and the condition is good for the age and use. One nail is exposed on one side (see last photo) and you can see it is handwrought. There are signs that the box once had a locking mechanism that is now gone. Buyer pays shipping. Please review and enlarge the photos and ask any questions you may have as the photos are a very important part of the description. Thank you.
