Description: Lovely vintage antique early 19c, possibly Chinese charm brooch with charms, all associated with good luck and good fortune. The beautiful bar pin brooch is a historical piece of jewelry full of the symbolism that the Chinese culture lives by. It is comprised of a textured sterling silver bar with 5 hanging charms. A Watering can and canoe or sail boat (wealth), mantle clock (financial wealth), a written symbol for luck or prosperity, a lantern (guidance and prosperity). The sterling finish has oxidized over the years giving this Chatelaine style brooch a gorgeous patina, texture, and depth. The Chinese believed that surrounding themselves with positive symbolism provided good luck and protection, so this exquisite piece of jewelry most likely had great meaning to whoever owned it. The brooch and some of the charms have markings on the back and appear to be signed and hallmarked possibly JS, but my vision is not good.
