His signature is very rare. He signed “Kent Taylor” “Boston Blackie” in blue ball point pen ink on this International Petroleum Company raffle ticket on August 3, 1953. International Petroleum Company was a sponsor of the hit TV show. Taylor was making personal appearances at the service stations listed on the back of the raffle ticket on August 3, 1953. The ticket has a piece of the upper left corner missing and is in typical aged condition. Mr. Taylor, born Louis William Weiss, was an American actor that appeared in more than 110 films, the bulk of them “B” movies in the 1930’s and 1940’s. He played the title role in the “Boston Blackie” TV series in 58 episodes of the detective show. He also had a number of small screen credits that he accomplished throughout his career. Along with Clark Gable, Kent Taylor served as the inspiration behind the name of Superman’s alter-ego, Clark Kent.
