Description: Up for your consideration RARE original antique cold painted bronze inkwell depicting 2 dogs (French boxers) and a duckling holding a purl, made by Franz Bergman. Absolutely unique piece. The paint and figurine itself are in excellent condition consistent with age and use. Marked with Bergman’s mark on the top. He signed with either a letter 'B' in an urn-shaped cartouche or 'Nam Greb' – 'Bergman' in reverse. These marks were used to disguise his identity on erotic works. 'Cold-painted bronze' refers to pieces cast in Vienna and then decorated in several layers with so-called dust paint; the know-how for the mix of this kind of paint has been lost.
