Description: The Feature of Unitas 6497 Movement We view a custom-made wristwatch with a Remanufactured Unitas 6497 movement as a unique and personal piece. The Unitas 6497 is a manual winding, Swiss-made movement known for its reliability and ease of service. This one had no wear and came from a Bulova Caravelle pocket watch. All parts are certified original Unitas. The Unitas 6497 is known for its robust nature and reliability. It's measures16.5 lignes (36.6mm) across and 4.5mm deep. The movement's size has influenced the trend towards larger watches, as watch cases grew to accommodate this sized caliber. It's also the movement used in modern Panerai watches before the Swatch Company, Ltd. merged Unitas into ETA. The History of Unitas 6497 Movement This Unitas 6497 is a Swiss-made mechanical manual wind movement that has been in production for decades. Originally designed for small hunter pocket watch cases, People often referred to it as a "pocket watch movement" until Panerai incorporated it into their wristwatch line. You will find it in many diving models from various manufacturers. Many brands have used Unitas including American brands Bulova and Hamilton and European flavors from Alpina to Zeno. Unitas merged with ETA and the Swatch Group, Ltd. in 1985. In short, the Unitas 6497 provides a highly versatile and reliable movement that has stood the test of time and continues to be a popular choice in the high-end watch industry. The Unique Dial of this watch The term "Anonymous 3646" originated during the later stages of World War II after Germany occupied Italy, replaced Italian underwater demolition teams with Kampfschwinners. Germany took over the production of Italian divers' watches from Panerai. Rolex continued to manufacturer the watches with Cortébret movements, but the Italians produced the dials. They call them "Anonymous" because Han Wilsdorf did not want to be known as a Nazi sympathizer. Originally, the Italian Navy created the large watches with this dial to aid legibility in low-light combat conditions. After the war, the style faded away until it was popularized in the 1980s economic boom in Japan, Italy and Switzerland. It's used even today.
