Description: VTG YO-HO CANNING JAR LIFTER TONGS with GREEN WOOD HANDLES that look new. No chippy paint on this fine Yo-Ho pair of tong jar handles. They’re also perfectly aligned and probably weren’t used much. Light rust in a few spots that can easily be removed if buyer intends to use. Probably wouldn’t clean if they are for display purposes. See photos. The Ball Blue book, edition 26-B, was published by the Ball company in 1959. The editors promised consumers to update this book with the newest scientific knowledge. It includes 4 new pages—one in full color showing 6 important steps in canning tomatoes. Also debuting is 2 pages of a raw pack method for canning several types of vegetables. And the jelly and jam section focuses on newer, safer “modern” canning methods in 1959. The small cook booklet is Canning & Preserving. The 16th Edition of this fun little book will make you chuckle while you cook. Gunner Ahlquist is the man who invented this safety canning gear and wrote this booklet. This is the 1945 revision of the 1935 booklet. Ink drawings of Elves are used throughout to illustrate and entertain the Gunnard Company’s pitch of its Canning Set No. 700, which addresses the safety needed to avoid dealing with broken jars. They offer a horror story of a man’s injury and bad health after he tried to help his wife with a broken jar inside the canner. There is also a very detailed single panel funny comic of this incident. Quite a few canning recipes are included, from sugar free berries, to Christmas beets, to pickles and meats. On the back cover is a clever recipe in which Ahlquist advises young women on “How to Preserve a Husband.” Home Canning Made Pure and Simple was published in 2014 by Tristar Products Inc. I added it to this lot to modernize some ideas and recipes, especially because it tells about making salsa, soup starters and recipes such as BBQ Onion Relish, Pickled Jalapeños, and Roasted Red Peppers. Its 22 pages are all in brilliant full color. Although written for a Tristar canning product, I’m sure experienced cooks will be able to find further Tristar information online or adapt these recipes to the equipment they use. All books have gentle wear. None of the three are written in or stained. All pages are intact to stapled spines. The oldest little booklet has some rust on its staples. It’s 26 pages including covers. All have shelf wear and edge wear on covers, mostly the Ball book with corner bumps and aging to spine. However, cleaner copies of these books and nicer green-handled wood vintage tongs are not so easy to find. Shipped via USPS Ground Advantage Item location: Banker Box L
